Manifold Absolute Pressure (Map) Sensor Test

  1. Ensure MAP sensor vacuum hose connections are secure. The MAP sensor is located in engine compartment on firewall. Backprobe MAP sensor connector. Connect a voltmeter between MAP sensor terminal "B" (marked on sensor connector) and ground. Turn ignition on.
  2. Voltmeter should read 4-5 volts. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Voltmeter should now read 1.5-2.1 volts. Check ECU terminal "C6" for same voltmeter readings as measured at MAP sensor terminal "B," to check wiring harness between ECU and MAP sensor. Repair as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect voltmeter between MAP sensor terminal "C" and ground. Turn ignition on. Voltmeter should read 4.5-5.5 volts. Check for same voltmeter reading at ECU terminal "C14." See Figure . Repair wiring harness as necessary.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between MAP sensor terminal "A" and ECU terminal "D3." Repair wiring harness as necessary.
