Refilling 3.0L V-6 Cooling System
NOTE:
The bleed valve is located in thermostat housing.
WARNING:
DO NOT open bleed valve when the engine is running. Personal injury due to hot coolant may result.
- Close the radiator drain valve.
- Using new gaskets, replace the (2) engine block drain plugs.
- Verify that the drain plugs on the radiator and the engine block are tight.
- Attach a 1/4" inside diameter hose to the bleed valve on the thermostat housing. See Fig 1 .
- Route the hose away from any moving engine parts and place other end of hose into a clean container.
- Open the bleed valve. SeeFig 1 .
- SLOWLY fill the expansion tank with coolant until a steady stream of coolant flows from the hose connected to the bleed valve.
- Close the bleed valve.
- Fill expansion tank to the FULL level as indicted on the bottle.
- Close the cap on the expansion tank.
- Remove hose connected to bleed valve.
- Start engine and run until upper radiator hose is warm.
- Turn engine OFF.
- Attach a 1/4" inside diameter hose to the bleed valve on the thermostat housing. See Fig 1 .
- Route the hose away from any moving engine parts and place other end of hose into a clean container.
- Open the bleed valve. See Fig 1 .
- SLOWLY fill the expansion tank with coolant until a steady stream of coolant flows from the hose connected to the bleed valve.
- Close the bleed valve.
- Fill expansion tank until coolant is SLIGHTLY ABOVE the FULL level as indicted on the bottle.
- Close the cap on the expansion tank.
