Basic Idle Speed (1.8L)

NOTE: Before adjusting basic idle speed, ensure throttle valve area is clean.
  1. Ensure engine is at operating temperature and all accessories are off. Place transmission in Neutral and front wheels in a straight-ahead position. Turn engine off.
  2. Loosen accelerator cable tension. Without starting engine, turn ignition on. Leave ignition on for 15 seconds. This completely closes ISC plunger. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ISC control servo connector. See Fig 1 .
  3. Turn fixed Speed Adjustment Screw (SAS) until throttle valve is fully closed. Start engine. Check basic idle speed. See the IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  .

  4. If idle speed is not to specification, go to next step. If idle speed is within specification, turn engine off. Remove all test equipment. Reconnect ISC control servo connector. Disconnect negative battery cable for 10 seconds to clear any trouble codes.
  5. Turn fixed SAS until idle speed starts to increase. See Fig 2 . Turn fixed SAS counterclockwise until idle speed no longer drops. This is called the "touch point".
  6. Turn fixed SAS counterclockwise an additional 1/2 turn. Turn engine off. Remove all test equipment. Reconnect ISC control servo connector. Disconnect negative battery cable for 10 seconds to clear any trouble codes.
