Ensure ignition timing is correct
Ensure timing belt/chain has not jumped
Check distributor (if applicable)
Check for gasoline in oil
Ensure fuel injectors are not leaking
Check spark plugs

Check engine speed sensor
Check throttle switch and connector
Check exhaust system
