Ignition Timing 1.8L

  1. Ensure vehicle is at operating temperature, all accessories are off and transmission is in Park or Neutral. Front wheels must be in a straight-ahead position.
  2. Insert paper clip in Crankshaft Revolution Counter (CRC or tachometer) filter connector and connect tachometer to engine. See Fig 1 . Ensure curb idle speed is set to specification. Turn engine off.
  3. Using a jumper wire, ground ignition timing adjustment connector Yellow/Red wire. See Figure and Figure . Start engine. Check base ignition timing. Loosen distributor hold-down bolt and adjust as necessary. Disconnect ground wire on ignition timing adjustment connector. Check actual ignition timing. Turn engine off. Remove all test equipment.
