Test NF-3B - Checking Fuel Pressure

WARNING: High fuel pressure may be present in fuel lines. Open fuel system with caution. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE procedure in this article.
  1. Before any repairs or removal of fuel pressure gauge, stop fuel system actuation test. Relieve fuel pressure. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/2 full before performing following test.
  2. Remove fuel return line from fuel pump at fuel tank. Connect Fuel Pressure Test Adapter (6541) to fuel return line. Place other end of adapter hose into an approved 2-gallon gasoline can. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  3. Using DRB-II, actuate fuel system. Observe fuel pressure gauge. If fuel pressure is 32-49 psi, repair restriction in fuel return line at fuel tank. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-2.
  4. If fuel pressure is not 32-49 psi, stop fuel system actuation. Relieve fuel pressure. Reconnect fuel return line to fuel tank. Disconnect fuel return line from fuel rail.
  5. Attach Fuel Pressure Test Adapter (6541) to fuel return line. Place other end of adapter hose into an approved 2-gallon gasoline can. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Actuate fuel system. Observe fuel pressure gauge.
  6. If fuel pressure is 32-49 psi, repair restricted fuel return line to fuel tank. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-2. If fuel pressure is not 32-49 psi, inspect fuel pressure damper line for restrictions.
  7. If no restrictions exist, replace fuel pressure regulator. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-2. If restrictions exist, replace fuel pressure damper line. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-2.
