Test 15E - OTIS Outside Temperature Sensor Problem

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Using DRB-II, read outside temperature. If DRB-II does not display 185°F, go to step 4). If DRB-II displays 185°F, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect outside (ambient) temperature sensor connector. Sensor is located behind front bumper, left of center. Turn ignition off, then back on. Observe temperature in DRB-II display. If temperature display dropped below 0°F, replace outside temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If temperature display did not drop below 0°F, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM) Gray connector. Module is located behind right kick panel. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 10, ambient temperature sensor signal circuit (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. Disconnect outside (ambient) temperature sensor connector. Sensor is located behind front bumper, left of center. Connect jumper wire between sensor ground circuit (Dark Blue/Gray wire) and outside temperature sensor signal circuit (Violet/Light Green wire) on outside temperature sensor connector terminals. Turn ignition off, then back on. Using DRB-II, read outside temperature. If DRB-II displays 185°F, replace outside temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If DRB-II did not display 185°F, connect jumper wire between chassis ground and outside temperature sensor connector (Violet/Light Green wire) terminal. Turn ignition off, then back on. Observe Overhead Travel Information System (OTIS) temperature. If OTIS displays 185°F, repair open circuit in Dark Blue/Gray wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If OTIS does not display 185°F, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM) Gray connector. Module is located behind right kick panel. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Violet/Light Green wire between BCM Gray connector terminal No. 10 and outside temperature sensor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open ambient temperature signal circuit. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
