Test 33B - Wiper Motor On/Off Relay Control Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Using DRB-II, read wiper park switch status. If DRB-II displays WIPER PK SW: CLOSED, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display WIPER PK SW: CLOSED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Connector is located on upper part of steering column, behind trim cover. If motor is not operating, replace multifunction switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If motor is operating, remove wiper motor on/off relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). PDC is located on left front fender apron. Reconnect multifunction switch connector and place wiper switch in low speed position. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on on/off relay connector control circuit (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 0.2 volt, replace on/off wiper motor relay. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If voltage is less than 0.2 volt, disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM) Bone connector. Module is located behind right kick panel. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on on/off relay connector control circuit (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. Disconnect windshield wiper motor connector. Connector is located on engine compartment firewall, just right of power brake booster. Using DRB-II, read wiper park switch status. If DRB-II does not display WIPER PK SW: CLOSED, replace windshield wiper motor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If DRB-II displays WIPER PK SW: CLOSED, turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Bone connector. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Bone connector terminal No. 2, park switch sense circuit (Tan/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
