Test 38C - Low Washer Fluid Light Circuit Open

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Access message center fuse (No. 14) at fuse/junction block. Fuse/junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fused ignition feed circuit (Dark Blue/White wire) of fuse No. 14. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Dark Blue/White wire between ignition switch and fuse/junction block. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, use DRB-II to actuate low washer fluid light. If light toggles on and off, go to step 7). If light does not toggle and off, go to next step.
  3. Using DRB-II, stop low washer fluid light actuation test. Disconnect message center connector. Connector is located under left side of dash, near instrument cluster connector. Remove and inspect low washer fluid bulb. If bulb filament is open, replace low washer fluid bulb. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If low washer fluid bulb filament is okay, use DRB-II in voltmeter mode to check voltage on message center connector fused ignition feed circuit (Dark Blue/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Dark Blue/White wire between fuse No. 14 and message center. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If voltage is more than 10 volts, use DRB-II to actuate low washer fluid light. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, backprobe message center connector low washer fluid output circuit (Red wire). If voltage pulsates between zero and more than 0.2 volt, replace message center. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
NOTE: The BCM must be connected while performing step 6). Failure to do so may lead to incorrect circuit/system diagnosis.
  6. If voltage does not pulsate between zero and more than 0.2 volt, ensure DRB-II is still actuating low washer fluid light. Using DRB-II in voltmeter mode, backprobe Body Controller Module (BCM) Bone connector terminal No. 6, low washer fluid output circuit (Red wire). Module is located behind right kick panel. If voltage pulsates between zero and more than 0.2 volt, repair open circuit in Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If voltage does not pulsate between zero and more than 0.2 volt, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  7. Using DRB-II, stop low washer fluid light actuation test. Disconnect washer fluid level switch connector from bottom of washer fluid reservoir. Connect jumper wire between washer fluid switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire) and ground circuit (Black wire) on washer fluid level switch connector. Using DRB-II, read washer fluid level switch status. If DRB-II displays WASH FLUID: LOW, replace washer fluid level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  8. If DRB-II does not display WASH FLUID: LOW, disconnect jumper wire used in step 7). Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and washer fluid switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire) on washer fluid level switch connector. If DRB-II displays WASH FLUID: LOW, repair open circuit in Black (ground) wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
NOTE: The BCM must be connected while performing step 9). Failure to do so may lead to incorrect circuit/system diagnosis.
  9. If DRB-II does not display WASH FLUID: LOW, access Body Controller Module (BCM). Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and washer fluid switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire) on terminal No. 17 of BCM Gray connector. If DRB-II displays WASH FLUID: LOW, repair open circuit in Black/Tan wire between BCM and washer fluid level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display WASH FLUID: LOW, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
