Test 47A - Illuminated Entry System

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn ignition off and open left front door. If all courtesy lights do not operate, go to TEST 40A. If all courtesy lights do operate, go to next step.
NOTE: Illuminated entry system operates by using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter only, not by lifting door handle.
  2. Close all doors. Lock left front door and wait 45 seconds. Unlock left front door using RKE transmitter. If left front door did not unlock, go to TEST 36A. If left front door did unlock, go to next step.
NOTE: Courtesy lights should light and fade off in 30-40 seconds. Keep ignition off and all doors closed for step 3) and wait 45 seconds.
  3. If courtesy lights come on and fade off after 30-40 seconds, system is operational with no trouble found. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If courtesy lights do not come on and fade off after 30-40 seconds, go to next step.
NOTE: RKE module may be accessed by carefully prying each end of dashboard top cover, then lifting rear edge of top cover and sliding cover forward to disengage front clips.
  4. Disconnect RKE module. Module is located on top, right side of dashboard. Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and RKE module Blue connector illuminated entry sense circuit (White wire). If courtesy lights come on, replace RKE module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
NOTE: The BCM must be connected while performing step 5). Failure to do so may lead to incorrect circuit/system diagnosis.
  5. If courtesy lights do not come on, access Body Controller Module (BCM). Module is located behind right kick panel. Wait 45 seconds if any door was opened. Disconnect jumper used in step 4). Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and BCM Gray connector terminal No. 15, illuminated entry sense circuit (White wire). If courtesy lights come on, repair open circuit in White wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If courtesy lights do not come on, disconnect jumper wire and BCM. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 15, illuminated entry sense circuit (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on White wire between RKE and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
