Test 48A - Headlights Will Not Turn Off
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Ensure optical horn and headlight dimmer switch (multifunction control lever on steering column) is in low beam position and high/low switch in off position. If headlights do not stay on, go to TEST 49A. If headlights stay on, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM). Module is located behind right kick panel. If headlights go off, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If headlights did not go off, disconnect headlight switch. If headlights go off, replace headlight switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If headlights do not go off, go to next step.
- Remove headlight time delay relay from fuse/relay block. Fuse/junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. If headlights do not go off, go to step 5). If headlights go off, go to next step.
- With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of headlight time delay relay control circuit (Red/Dark Blue wire) on headlight time delay relay fuse/block connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace headlight time delay relay. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Connector is located on upper part of steering column, behind trim cover. If headlights go off, go to step 7). If headlights do not go off, remove fuse No. 15 from fuse/junction block. If both headlights go off, repair short to battery in relay fused output circuit (Violet wire) between fuse No. 15 and left low beam. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If both headlights did not go off, install fuse No. 15. Remove fuse No. 16 from fuse/junction block. If right low beam headlight goes off, repair short to battery in relay fused output circuit (Violet wire) between fuse No. 16 and right low beam. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If right low beam headlight does not go off, repair short to battery in headlight time delay relay switched output circuit (Light Green wire). Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlight time delay relay switched output circuit (Light Green wire) on headlight time delay relay fuse/relay block connector. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair short to battery in Light Green wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace optical horn switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
