Test 50A - Inoperative Headlight Time Delay Relay Output

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Using DRB-II, stop headlight relay actuation test. Turn ignition off and disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM). Module is located behind right kick panel. Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2, headlight time delay relay control circuit (Red/Dark Blue wire). If headlights come on, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  2. If headlights does not come on, disconnect jumper wire. Remove headlight time delay relay from fuse/junction block. Fuse/junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on battery feed circuit (Red/White wire) on headlight time delay relay fuse/junction block connector No. 23. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red/White wire between relay and fuse "E" of Power Distribution Center (PDC). Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If voltage is more than 10 volts, use DRB-II in voltmeter mode to check voltage on battery feed circuit (Red/White wire) on headlight time delay relay fuse/junction block connector No. 21. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red/White wire between relay and fuse "E" of PDC. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If voltage is more than 10 volts, connect jumper wire between battery feed circuit (Red/White wire) and headlight switch output circuit (Light Green wire) on headlight time delay relay fuse/junction block connector No. 23 and connector No. 25. If headlights do not come, repair open circuit in Light Green wire between relay and optical horn switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If headlights come on, disconnect jumper wire. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of headlight time delay relay control circuit (Red/Dark Blue wire) between terminal No. 2 of BCM Gray connector and fuse/junction block connector No. 22. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Red/Dark Blue wire between relay and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlight time delay relay. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
