Test 51A - Inoperative Key-In Light

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. If key-in light is not on constantly, go to step 2). If key-in light is on constantly, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM) Bone connector. Module is located behind right kick panel. If key-in light goes off, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If key-in light does not go off, repair short to ground in key-in light control circuit (Yellow/Red wire). Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  2. Turn ignition off. Close all doors, wait 60 seconds and open left front door. If key-in light comes on then goes off after 30 seconds, system is operational with no trouble found. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If key-in light does not come on and then go off after 30 seconds, turn ignition on. Using DRB-II, actuate key-in light test. If key-in light flashes on and off, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If key-in light did not flash on and off, use DRB-II to stop key-in light actuation test. Remove and inspect key-in light bulb. If bulb filament is open, replace key-in light. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If bulb filament is okay, disconnect key-in light connector (on steering column). With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on key-in light connector fused battery feed circuit (Pink wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Pink wire between fuse No. 13 and key-in light connector. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  6. If voltage is more than 10 volts, disconnect BCM Bone connector. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on key-in light connector fused battery feed circuit (Pink wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair short to battery in Pink wire and replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  7. If voltage is less than 10 volts, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance in key-in light control circuit (Pink wire) between key-in light connector and terminal No. 5 of BCM Bone connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Pink wire between key-in light connector and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
