Test 8A - Mic Fuel Gauge Warning Light Faulty
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Check if fuel gauge indicates full all the time. If fuel gauge does not indicate full all the time, go to step 4). If fuel gauge indicates full all the time, go to next step.
- Access fuel pump/fuel tank sending unit connector. Connector is located on top of fuel tank and is accessible by removing access cover in floor of trunk. Using DRB-II, read fuel level sensor status. If voltage is more than 9 volts, replace fuel tank sending unit. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If voltage is less than 9 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM) Gray connector. Module is located behind right kick panel. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 23, fuel level feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- Access fuel pump/fuel tank sending unit connector. Connector is located on top of fuel tank and is accessible by removing access cover in floor of trunk. Connect jumper wire between fuel level feed circuit (Dark Blue wire) and ground circuit (Black/Tan wire) on fuel pump wiring harness connector terminals. Using DRB-II, read fuel level status. If DRB-II indicates zero volts, replace fuel level sensor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If DRB-II did not indicate zero volts, disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and fuel pump connector fuel level feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). If DRB-II indicates zero volts, repair open circuit in Black/Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.NOTE: The BCM must be connected while performing step 6). Failure to do so may lead to incorrect circuit/system diagnosis.
- If DRB-II did not indicate zero volts, disconnect jumper wire used in step 5). Access Body Controller Module (BCM) Gray connector. Module is located behind right kick panel. Connect jumper wire between chassis ground and BCM Gray connector terminal No. 23, fuel level feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). If DRB-II indicates zero volts, repair open circuit in Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not indicate zero volts, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
