Test 5C - Mic Or OTIS Illumination

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Access Body Controller Module (BCM). Module is located behind right kick panel. Disconnect all BCM connectors. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 8, panel lights feed circuit (Orange wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to TEST 5D.
  2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) connectors. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 8, panel lights feed circuit (Orange wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit board. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect manual A/C-heater control module connectors (if equipped). With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 8, panel lights feed circuit (Orange wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace manual A/C-heater control module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect automatic A/C-heater control panel connectors (if equipped). With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 8, panel lights feed circuit (Orange wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace automatic A/C-heater display head. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, test procedure did not locate fault. A panel light failure fault is set when instrument cluster illumination lights/circuit is shorted for 10 seconds with headlight switch in any position. Possible causes may be due to: a short circuit in foglight switch, a short circuit in radio illumination circuit, a short circuit in ashtray light, a short circuit in traction control switch, or a short circuit anywhere in panel lights feed circuit (Orange wire).
