Ignition Coil (2.0L)

  1. Disconnect ignition coil connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure primary coil resistance between ignition coil terminals No. 2 and 3. Perform TEST 1. See Fig 1 . Also, measure resistance between ignition coil connector terminals No. 1 and 3. Primary resistance should be .70-.86 ohm at 68°F (20°C).
  2. With ignition coil connector still disconnected, measure secondary coil resistance. Measure resistance between high-voltage terminals for cylinders No. 1 and 4, and between high-voltage terminals for cylinders No. 2 and 3. Perform TEST 2. See Fig 1 .
  3. Secondary resistance should be 11,300-15,300 ohms. Replace ignition coil if it does not test as described.

NOTE: To test power transistors, use an analog ohmmeter.
