Ignition Coil Resistance

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Mitsubishi Diamante, 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT, and 1996 Dodge Stealth. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. On Diamante (DOHC), Stealth and 3000GT, measure primary coil resistance between terminal No. 3 (power terminal) and each individual coil terminal using a DVOM. See Fig 1 . To check secondary coil resistance, measure resistance between towers of each individual coil.
  2. On Montero 3.0L 24-valve, measure primary coil resistance between terminal No. 1 (power terminal) and each individual coil terminal using a DVOM. See Fig 1 . To check secondary coil resistance, measure resistance between towers of each individual coil.

  3. Replace coil if primary and secondary coil resistances are not within specification. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  table.
