Pump Motor Circuit Not Working Properly

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM.
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove pump/motor relay fuse from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Fig 1 . If fuse is okay, repair open in Dark Blue wire to pump/motor relay. Perform TEST VER-1A. If fuse is open, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect pump/motor relay. Inspect, clean or repair connector as necessary. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) at pump/motor relay. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire. Replace pump/motor relay fuse. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect pump/motor connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of terminal "B" (Brown/White wire) at pump/motor relay. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire. Replace pump/motor relay fuse. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Reconnect electrical connectors. Replace pump/motor fuse. Using scan tool, actuate pump/motor. Check pump/motor fuse. If fuse blows, replace pump/motor. Replace pump/motor fuse. Perform TEST VER-1A. If fuse does not blow, problem is intermittent. Check wiring and connectors, and repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A.
