Pump Motor Circuit Not Working Properly
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read pump/motor speed sensor. If scan tool reads PUMP/MOTOR = ON, go to step 3). If scan tool does not read PUMP/MOTOR = ON, go to next step.
- Connect a jumper wire between chassis ground and terminal "A" (Gray wire) at pump/motor relay. Using scan tool, read pump/motor speed sensor. If scan tool reads PUMP/MOTOR = ON, pump/motor circuit is working properly at this time. Perform TEST VER-1A. If scan tool does not read PUMP/MOTOR = ON, go to next step.
- Disconnect pump/motor connector. If scan tool reads PUMP/MOTOR OFF, replace HCU. Perform TEST VER-1A. If scan tool does not read PUMP/MOTOR OFF, go to next step.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) at pump/motor connector. If reading is more than 3 volts, repair short to power in Violet/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is less than 3 volts, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check voltage on terminal No. 4 (Yellow/White wire) at pump/motor connector. If reading is more than 3 volts, repair short to power in Yellow/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is less than 3 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of terminal No. 3 (Violet/White wire) at pump/motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check resistance of terminal No. 4 (Yellow/White wire) at pump/motor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between pump/motor connector terminals No. 3 and 4. See Fig 1 . If resistance is not 10-35 ohms, replace HCU. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is 10-35 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect CAB 37-pin connector. Inspect, clean or repair connector as necessary. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Violet/White wire between CAB connector terminal No. 8 and pump/motor connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Violet/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Yellow/White wire between CAB connector terminal No. 21 and pump/motor connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Reconnect pump/motor connector. Disconnect pump/motor relay. Connect a jumper wire between terminals "B" (Brown/White wire) and "D" (Dark Blue wire) at pump/motor relay. Pump/motor should be heard running. Using an external voltmeter set on AC scale, check voltage between CAB connector terminals No. 8 and 21. If reading is less than 0.5 volt AC, replace HCU. Perform TEST VER-1A. If reading is more than 0.5 volt AC, replace CAB. Perform TEST VER-1A.
