Test 49A - Headlamps Inoperative In Auto Mode

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE:
  1. Using scan tool, actuate headlamp relay. If headlamps toggle on and off, replace Body Control Module (BCM). is located behind right kick panel. If headlamps do not toggle on and off, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM Gray connector. Connect jumper wire between BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Dark Blue wire) and chassis ground. If headlamps illuminate, replace BCM. If headlamps do not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire. Remove headlamp time delay relay from junction block. See Figure . Junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlamp time delay relay connector terminal "A" (Red/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlamp time delay relay connector terminal "C" (Red/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Connect jumper wire between headlamp time delay relay connector terminals "A" (Red/White wire) and "B" (Light Green wire). If headlamps do not illuminate, repair open Light Green wire. If headlamps illuminate, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect jumper wire. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Dark Blue wire between headlamp time delay relay connector terminal "E" and BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Red/Dark Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlamp time delay relay.
