Test 79A - Washer Fluid Lamp Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE:
  1. Turn ignition off. Wait 60 seconds. Check if washer fluid reservoir is full. Add washer fluid as necessary. If washer fluid reservoir is low and low washer fluid lamp does not come on, go to TEST 79B. If washer fluid reservoir is full, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Wait 60 seconds and observe message center. If low washer fluid lamp does not come on, system is operating properly at this time. If low washer fluid lamp comes on, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read washer fluid status. If scan tool displays WASH FLUID OK, go to step 5). If scan tool does not display WASH FLUID OK, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect washer fluid level switch connector from bottom of washer fluid reservoir. If scan tool displays WASH FLUID OK, replace washer fluid level switch. If scan tool does not display WASH FLUID OK, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Gray connector. BCM is located behind right kick panel. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of BCM Gray connector terminal No. 17 (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Tan wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Bone connector. Turn ignition on. Observe message center. If low washer fluid lamp comes on, repair short to ground in Red wire. If low washer fluid lamp does not come on, replace BCM.
