Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) Testing

  1. Before testing WSS resistance, ensure no foreign material has adhered to pole piece at WSS tip. WSS pole can become magnetized and pick up foreign material. Check WSS pole piece for damage. If damaged, replace WSS.
  2. Disconnect WSS connector. Inspect WSS wiring harness for broken or pinched wires. Repair or replace as necessary. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance across WSS wiring connector. Resistance should be 1000-1200 ohms. If resistance is not within specification, replace WSS.
  3. Check WSS-to-rotor gap. Gap should be 1.11-1.12" (28.2-28.5 mm). If WSS-to-rotor gap is within specification, go to next step. If gap is not within specification, check WSS and rotor. Replace as necessary.
  4. Inspect WSS rotor which set DTC for damaged or missing teeth. If rotor is okay, go to WHEEL SPEED SENSOR (WSS) OUTPUT VOLTAGE. If rotor is damaged, replace rotor.
