Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between TP sensor connector terminals No. 1 and 3. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 3.5-6.5 ohms. If resistance is within specification, go to next step. If resistance is not within specification, replace TP sensor.
  2. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between TP sensor connector terminals No. 2 and 3. See Fig 1 . While observing DVOM, slowly open throttle to Wide Open Throttle (WOT). Resistance should change smoothly. If resistance does not change smoothly, replace TP sensor. If resistance changes smoothly, TP sensor is functioning properly.
