Inspection Procedure 32 - Scan Tool Inspection Procedure When

ENGINE WILL NOT START

1. Perform scan tool service data inspection procedure on power supply voltage for ECM. See SCAN TOOL SERVICE DATA INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
2. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check power supply and ignition switch IG system. Perform INSPECTION PROCEDURE 23.
3. Remove oil filler cap from valve cover. Check that camshaft rotates while cranking engine. If camshaft rotates, go to next step. If camshaft does not rotate, check for broken timing belt. Repair as necessary.
4. Using scan tool, check for stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If stored DTCs exist, perform appropriate test procedures for each DTC, and clear DTCs from ECM. If no DTCs exist, go to next step.
5. Using scan tool, perform scan tool service data inspection on crankshaft position sensor. See SCAN TOOL SERVICE DATA INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
6. If cranking speed is displayed, go to next step. If cranking speed is not displayed, check crankshaft position sensor circuit. Perform DTC TEST NO. 16.
7. Using scan tool actuator test, check fuel pump. See SCAN TOOL ACTUATOR TESTS  .
8. If fuel pump operates correctly when performing scan tool actuator test, go to next step. If fuel pump does not operate correctly when performing scan tool actuator test, check fuel pump system operation. Perform INSPECTION PROCEDURE 24.
9. Perform scan tool service data inspection procedure on engine coolant temp sensor. See SCAN TOOL SERVICE DATA INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
10. If engine coolant temperature sensor operates correctly, inspection procedure is complete. If engine coolant temperature sensor does not operate correctly, check engine coolant temperature sensor circuit. Perform DTC TEST NO. 4.
