INCOMPLETE COMBUSTION OCCURS

  1. Using scan tool, check for stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If stored DTCs exist, perform appropriate test procedures for each DTC, and clear DTCs from ECM. If no DTCs exist, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool actuator test, check fuel pump. See SCAN TOOL ACTUATOR TESTS  .
  3. If fuel pump operates correctly when performing scan tool actuator test, go to next step. If fuel pump does not operate correctly when performing scan tool actuator test, check fuel pump system operation. Perform INSPECTION PROCEDURE 24.
  4. Perform scan tool service data inspection procedure on engine coolant temp sensor. See SCAN TOOL SERVICE DATA INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
  5. If engine coolant temperature sensor operates correctly, go to next step. If engine coolant temperature sensor does not operate correctly, check engine coolant temperature sensor circuit. Perform DTC TEST NO. 4.
  6. Using scan tool, perform scan tool service data inspection procedure on cranking signal (ignition switch start ST circuit). See SCAN TOOL SERVICE DATA INSPECTION PROCEDURE  .
  7. If correct cranking signal is obtained from ignition switch, inspection procedure is complete. If correct cranking signal is not obtained from ignition switch, check ignition switch start (ST) system. Perform INSPECTION PROCEDURE 25 (M/T models) or perform INSPECTION PROCEDURE 26 (A/T models).
