Inspection Procedure 44 - Throttle Position Sensor Output

CIRCUIT

NOTE: For Engine Control Module (ECM) terminal ID, See Figure . For wiring diagram, see the WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Access connectors on ECM. The ECM is located below instrument panel, just in front of center console.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, check voltage between ground and terminal No. 84 (Brown/Red wire) on 22-pin ECM connector B-56 with throttle at idle position and full throttle position.
  3. Voltage should be .3-1.0 volt at idle position and 4.5-5.5 volts at full throttle. If voltage is within specification, go to step 5). If voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
  4. Check for defective terminals or connections at 22-pin ECM connector B-56. If terminals or connections are defective, repair as necessary. If terminals and connections are okay, check for a trouble symptom. See the TROUBLE SYMPTOM INSPECTION  . If no trouble symptom exists, replace ECM.
  5. Check for defective terminals or connections at connector on throttle position sensor. If terminals or connections are defective, repair as necessary. If terminals and connections are okay, go to next step.
  6. Check for a trouble symptom. For specific symptoms, see the TROUBLE SYMPTOM INSPECTION  . If no trouble symptom exists, check wiring harness between ECM and throttle position sensor. Repair wiring harness as necessary.
