Fuel Pump Relay

Engine Control Module (ECM) controls fuel pump relay operation by controlling fuel pump relay ground circuit. ECM opens ground circuit when ignition is off and completes ground circuit when ignition is on to provide fuel pump operation when engine is cranking or running. If ECM does not receive a crankshaft signal within about one second when engine is cranking, the ECM de-energizes the fuel pump relay. If the throttle is in full throttle position with ignition on and engine off, the ECM will not energize the fuel pump relay.

Fuel pump relay receives battery voltage from the ignition switch on the 2 Black/White wires. ECM controls the ground circuit on the White/Red wire. Black/Blue wire supplies voltage to fuel pump when fuel pump relay is energized. Fuel pump relay is located on passenger's side of center console, in front of emergency brake lever. See Fig 1 .

NOTE: For fuel pump relay testing, see SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - TURBO article.
