Test Mode 2
- Test mode 2 provides an increased sensitivity for system testing. When test mode 2 is selected, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) will be turned on at the point when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a malfunction which affects vehicle emissions. At this point, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in ECM. In the case of comprehensive component electrical faults, the time from the occurrence of the fault to the storing of DTC is compressed from 4 seconds to one second.
- Once test mode 2 has been selected, it is necessary to turn ignition off, or to use scan tool to select test mode 1 once more before test mode 1 operation can be resumed. However, all DTCs, readiness test status and freeze frame data will be after returning to test mode 1, so this data should be recorded beforehand if necessary.
- Using scan tool, change test mode of ECM to test mode 2 (increased sensitivity). Road test vehicle. Retrieve DTCs from ECM. Turn ignition off. When ignition is turned off, ECM will change back to test mode 1. Repair system as necessary.
