Test NTC-6A: Checking Coolant Sensor Calibration

NOTE: Perform TEST NTC-1A  or TEST NTC-5A  before proceeding.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor value. If engine operating temperature is more than 180°F (82°C), allow engine to cool to 150°F (66°C). Start engine. While monitoring scan tool, allow engine to reach normal operating temperature of more than 180°F (82°C). Go to next step.
  2. If ECT sensor value increased in a smooth transition, go to next step. If ECT sensor value did not increase in a smooth transition, verify engine cooling system is not malfunctioning. If engine cooling system is malfunctioning, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A . If engine cooling system is not malfunctioning, replace ECT sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
  3. If engine coolant temperature reached 180°F (82°C) or more, cooling system is functioning properly. Test is complete. If engine coolant temperature did not reach 180°F (82°C) or more, verify engine cooling system is not malfunctioning. If engine cooling system is malfunctioning, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A . If engine cooling system is not malfunctioning, replace ECT sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
