MARELLI Single/Dual Breaker Point Distributors: Description

Distributors may be single or dual breaker point type. Centrifugal advance is accomplished with conventional weights and springs which may be located either beneath breaker plate or at top of distributor shaft. On distributor with top mounted centrifugal advance, the rotor also serves as a cover for the advance mechanism. Distributors may or may not be equipped with a vacuum advance device.

On dual breaker point systems, one set is used for normal operation. The second set is used for cold engine starting and additional spark advance. A control circuit activates the advance breaker set for cold start operation and then switches ignition circuit to the other breaker set for normal operation.
