Engine Cooling System: Engine: Thermostat: Removal: Removal

CAUTION:

Do not loosen radiator draincock with system hot and pressurized. Serious burns from coolant can occur.

CAUTION:

The Thermostat and housing is serviced as an assembly. Do not remove the thermostat from the housing, damage to the thermostat may occur.

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Remove the air intake assembly (1).
  3. Drain the cooling system.

  4. Disconnect the negative (2) and the positive (1) battery cable.
  5. Remove the battery hold down nut (3) and remove the clamp.
  6. Remove the battery (4).

  7. Remove the battery tray bolt (2) and nut (3) and position the tray aside.

  8. Remove the coolant recovery bottle return hose (2).
  9. Remove the lower radiator hose (3).
  10. Remove the oil cooler return hose (4).

  11. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor (2) harness connector.
  12. Remove the heater supply hose (1).

  13. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor (4).
  14. Remove the thermostat mounting bolts (2).

  15. Remove the thermostat from the engine block and discard gasket seal.
  16. Remove the temperature sensor.
