Switch, Electric Shifter: Operation: Operation
The shifter switch incorporates electronics to command the eMotor direction as requested by the driver. The EVCU receives the input from the ePRNDL unit and as a result, the ESM receives a command from the EVCU to operate the park pawl motor.
The push-button shifter (ePRNDL) provides momentary push button functionality with included hardware to electrically communicate a vehicle movement request from the driver of the vehicle. Each button has a pair of electrical contacts that close to signify that the button has been depressed. The button contacts are at two different voltage potentials. When the button is pressed, the contact voltages switch potential.
- Selecting R, N or D from the P position is not possible unless the brake pedal is pressed.
- Selecting P is not possible when the vehicle is moving greater than 2 mph.
- Toggling between R and D is permitted for rocking the vehicle, as may be necessary if stuck in snow, mud etc.
- The EVCU provides position selection to the BCM via the CAN-C bus for position display in the instrument cluster.
- The ePRNDL active status indicator LED is controlled by the EVCU and is visible in day or night time conditions.
- LED intensity is determined based upon the duty cycle of a 120Hz pulse width input.
