Cut-Off/Inertia Switch: Operation

Ford Motor Co. uses an inertial switch to shut off electric fuel pump in the event of collision or roll-over. Switch contacts are normally closed, but open on impact or roll-over. A reset button is located on the switch assembly. If the electrical circuit trips, the switch must be reset by depressing the button or vehicle will not re-start. Anytime the switch opens, the fuel system should be inspected for damage prior to resetting.
