Fuel Injection System - Multi-Point: Description

The electronic fuel injection system is a pulse time, Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI) system. On-board Electronic Engine Control (EEC-IV) system has Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) which receives inputs from engine and vehicle sensors to compute required fuel flow rate necessary to maintain prescribed air/fuel ratio throughout entire engine operational range.

Additional airflow metering is provided on the 1.9L and 2.3L Turbo engines by a Vane Airflow (VAF) meter. The 5.0L Mass Airflow (MA) engine used in Mustangs (California and Police models) uses Mass Airflow (MA) sensor to measure the quantity of air entering the engine.

The ECA controls fuel injectors to meter fuel quantity into intake ports. Injector "on" time is the only controlled variable in fuel delivery system.
