Testing Dual Orifice Valves

  1. 1.9L engine is equipped with a Dual Orifice PCV system. Periodic inspection is required. Check for proper hose routing and/or blocked, cracked or broken hoses. Clean as required.
  2. Place transmission in Park or Neutral set parking brake, block wheels. Turn A/C to "OFF". Bring engine to operating temperature.
  3. Remove vacuum control hose at throttle body port. Apply manifold vacuum to port. If there is significant change in engine RPM, go on to step 2). If not replace dual orifice assembly.
  4. Remove crankcase vent connector from side of air cleaner. Hold a stiff piece of paper over open end of vent connector for one minute. If vacuum holds paper in place PCV system is good. If not go on to step 5).
  5. Remove vacuum hose (small) at crankcase vent connector. Place stiff paper over vacuum hose. If vacuum holds paper, replace crankcase vent connector. If not go to step 6).
  6. Remove dual orifice valve and check that valve is clear. If not, clear or replace as necessary.
