Dis Module, Harness & Coil
- Install DIS Diagnostic Cable (Hickok HK-100-306) and EEC breakout box. If there is continuous spark at any coil wire while cranking engine, go to step 6). If there is not continuous spark at any coil wire, go to step 2).
- With ignition on, if voltage between J5 and negative terminal of battery is more than 11 volts, go to step 3). If less than 11 volts, repair open circuit.
- With ignition off, if resistance between J2 and negative battery terminal is less than 5 ohms, go to step 4). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, IGNDD circuit is open. Repair harness.
- Measure voltage between J32 and J2 while cranking engine in short bursts. If 2 readings of zero and 10-12 volts are present during cranking (5.5-7.5 volts if engine runs), go to step 5). If the readings are not present, go to DIS MODULE, HARNESS & SENSORS test, step 8).
- While cranking engine in short busts, measure voltage between J51 and J2. If 2 readings of zero and 10-12 volts are present during cranking (5.5-7.5 volts if engine runs), go to step 6). If the readings are not present, go to DIS MODULE, HARNESS & SENSORS, step 1).
- Connect test light between J14 and J5. Crank engine. If test light blinks continuously, go to step 7). If test light does not blink continuously, go to step 10).
- Move test light to J13. Crank engine. If light blinks continuously, go to step 8). If test light does not blink continuously, go to step 15).
- Move light to J12. Crank engine. If light blinks contin- uously, go to step 9). If light does not blink continuously, go to step 20).
- Measure voltage between J7 and J2. If more than 11 volts is present, replace coil. If voltage is less than 11 volts, coil VBAT circuit is damaged. Repair harness.
- On all engines, move test light to J3. Crank engine. If test light blinks continuously, Coil 1 circuit is open. Repair circuit. If test light does not blink continuously, go to step 11).
- Remove coil from coil tee. Crank engine. If test light blinks continuously, replace the coil. If test light does not blink continuously, go to step 12).
- Measure resistance between J14 and J3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 13). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, Coil 1 circuit is open, repair harness.
- Disconnect DIS module from module output tee. With ignition off, if resistance between J18 and J2 is more than 10k ohms, go to step 14). If resistance is less than 10k ohms, Coil 1 circuit is shorted to GND. Repair harness.
- With ignition off, if resistance between J18 and J5 is more than 10k ohms. Replace DIS module. If less than 10k ohms, Coil 1 circuit is shorted to VBAT.
- Move lead from J13 to J6. Crank engine. If test light blinks continuously, Coil 3 circuit is open. Repair harness. If test light does not blink continuously, go to step 16).
- Remove coil from coil tee. Crank engine. If test light blinks continuously, replace coil. If test light does not blink continuously, go to step 17).
- With ignition off, if resistance between J13 and J6 is less than 5 ohms, go to step 18). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, Coil 3 circuit is open. Repair harness.
- Disconnect DIS module from module output tee. With ignition off, if resistance between J6 and J2 is more than 10k ohms, go to step 19). If resistance is less than 10k ohms, Coil 2 circuit is shorted to GND. Repair harness.
- With key off, if resistance between J13 and J5 is more than 10k ohms, Coil 2 circuit is shorted to VBAT. If resistance is less than 10k ohms, replace DIS module.
- Move lead from J12 to J18. Crank engine. If light blinks continuously, Coil 2 circuit is open, repair harness. If light did not blink continuously, go to step 21).
- Remove the coil from coil tee. Crank engine. If light blinks continuously, replace coil. If light does not blink continuously, go to step 22).
- Measure resistance between J3 and J14. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 23). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, Coil 1 circuit is open. Repair harness.
- With ignition off, disconnect module from module output tee. If resistance between J3 and J2 is more than 10k ohms, proceed to step 24). If resistance is less than 10k ohms, Coil 1 circuit is shorted to GND. Repair harness
- With key off, if resistance between J3 and J5 is more than 10k ohms, replace DIS module. If less than 10k ohms, Coil 1 circuit is shorted to VBAT. Repair harness.
