Quick Test: Overview
NOTE:
The Quick Test information in this article has been updated to reflect Ford TSB 89-25A-14.
The Quick Test procedure is the starting point for all EEC-IV system troubleshooting. It is designed to identify system failure areas based on self-diagnostic findings and/or driveability symptoms. After a failure area has been identified, the Quick Test selects the appropriate Pinpoint Test needed to pinpoint & repair the exact fault.
The Quick Test is highly structured and MUST be carefully followed as directed, starting with STEP 1.0. Otherwise misdiagnosis or replacement of good components may result.
If a vehicle passes all Quick Test procedures and there are no intermittent faults, the EEC-IV system is okay.
The outline of the Quick Test is:
- 1.0: Visual Check
- 2.0: Vehicle Prep & Equipment Hook-Up
- 3.0: Perform Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Test
- 4.0: Computed Timing Check
- 5.0: Perform Engine Running (KOER) Self-test
- 6.0: KOEO Code-To-Test Chart
- 7.0: KOER Code-To-Test Chart
- 8.0: Continuous Code-to-test Chart
- 9.0: Diagnosis By Symptom
