Switch Performance Check
To properly diagnose solenoid, it must be checked in the ON and OFF positions. When test procedure requires click test, check appropriate solenoid as follows.
- BOOST - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on. Apply pressure to vacuum nipple of turbocharger boost control solenoid. Using jumper wire, ground test pin No. 31 of breakout box to release vacuum.
- CANP - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on. Apply vacuum to vacuum nipple of canister purge solenoid. Using jumper wire, ground test pin No. 31 of breakout box to release vacuum.
- EGRC/EGRV - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on. Apply vacuum to EGR valve. Vacuum should not hold. Using jumper wire, ground test pin No. 33 of breakout box. Apply vacuum to EGR valve. Vacuum should hold.
- HSIA - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on. Apply vacuum to HSIA solenoid. Vacuum should hold. Using jumper wire, ground test pin No. 53 of breakout box. Vacuum should hold.
- PRC - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on. Apply vacuum to PRC solenoid. Vacuum should hold. Using jumper wire, ground appropriate test pin of breakout box. See CIRCUIT PIN IDENTIFICATION (SCG) . Apply vacuum to PRC solenoid. Vacuum should release.
- ISC - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on. Using jumper wire, ground test pin No. 41 of breakout box. ISC solenoid should click when test pin is grounded.
Switch must be checked in ON and OFF positions. Switch should function as follows:
- ACS - Switch is closed when A/C button is on and blower is operating.
- BLMT - Switch is closed in every position except OFF.
- CES/NGS - CES switch is closed when clutch pedal is up. NGS switch is closed when transaxle is in Neutral.
- IDL - Switch is open when throttle is depressed.
- PSPS - PSPS switch is open when system pressure is less than approximately 245 psi (16.9 kg/cm2 ). Switch is closed when system pressure is approximately greater than 290 psi (20.0 kg/cm2 ).
- WOT - Switch is closed when throttle is open.
Switch must be checked in ON and OFF positions. Switch should perform as follows:
- BOO - Switch is closed when brake pedal is applied.
- FAN - Switch is closed by grounding coolant temperature switch.
- DEF - Switch is closed by turning rear defroster on.
- HLDT - Switch is closed by turning headlights on.
- VST - Switch is closed when engine is cranking.
