Engine Controls - System/Component Tests - EEC: Introduction

WARNING: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION.

Before testing separate components or systems, perform all BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES listed in BASIC TESTING article. Since many computer-controlled and monitored components will set a trouble code if they malfunction, also perform SELF-DIAGNOSTICS listed in TESTS W/CODES article.

NOTE: Testing of individual components does not isolate short or open circuits. Perform all voltage tests with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless specifically stated otherwise in test procedures. Use ohmmeter to isolate shorts or opens in wiring harness.
