Ignition Switch Test

  1. Check main circuit breaker in main fuse panel. Main fuse panel is located under hood, near battery. If circuit breaker is open, check and repair circuit as necessary.
  2. Reset circuit breaker. Remove trim cover, lower panel, and defroster duct to gain access to steering column wiring. Measure voltage on Black wire at ignition switch. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Black wire from main fuse panel. See Fig 1 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to START position. Measure voltage on Black/Yellow wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, ensure Black/Yellow wire is not shorted to ground. If Black/Yellow wire is okay, replace ignition switch.
