Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES section.
CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) functions to modulate fluid pressure to individual wheels to prevent wheels from locking under hard braking conditions. System uses an ABS electronic control unit (located under passenger's seat on Escort and Tracer or behind left cowl side trim panel on Probe), a hydraulic actuator assembly (containing solenoid valves, flow control valves, pump motor and buffer chambers) and a wheel speed sensor and sensor ring at each wheel.
