Test F: Generator

  1. Battery Voltage Check

Using DVOM, measure battery voltage at battery terminals. If voltage is 12.4-12.6 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 12.4-12.6 volts, replace or charge battery. Check charging system.
  2. Check For Battery Voltage at ABS Control Module

With ignition off, measure voltage between ground and ABS control module Black/White wire. Voltage should be zero volts. Turn ignition on, voltage should be more than 10 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair Black/White wire between battery, fuse and ABS control module.
  3. Generator Voltage Check

Set DVOM on 20-volt scale. Start engine and let idle. Measure voltage at generator terminal "B" (Black wire). Voltage should be 14.1-14.7 volts. Measure voltage at generator terminal "L" (White/Black wire). Voltage should be 13.0-14.0 volts. Measure voltage at generator terminal "S" (White/Green wire). Voltage should be 14.1-14.7 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check charging system wiring or repair generator.
  4. ABS Control Module Generator Voltage Check

With ignition on and engine off, measure voltage of White/Black wire at ABS control module. Voltage should be 0.8-3.0 volts. With engine idling, voltage should be more than 10 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to TEST G  . If voltage is not as specified, repair White/Black wire between ABS control module and generator.
