Test E
- Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between generator terminal "F" screw and ground. See Figure
. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 3
.
- Start engine. Connect jumper wire between generator terminal "A" screw and battery positive terminal. See Figure
. Observe charge warning indicator. If indicator flickers, replace voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check system operation. If indicator does not flicker, repair Black wire or connections between generator and battery. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Check system operation.
- Remove generator. See GENERATOR
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check brush holder screws (generator terminals "A" and "F"). See Figure
. Clean and tighten screws as necessary. If screws are okay, go to next step.
- Remove voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between each generator slip ring and ground. See Fig 1
. If resistance is 200 ohms or greater, replace voltage regulator. If resistance is less than 200 ohms, clean accumulated grease or dirt from around slip rings and recheck resistance. If resistance is still less than 200 ohms, replace generator.
