Test C: Single Mirror Does Not Function With Control Logic
NOTE:
Control circuit between terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Red wire) at mirror control switch harness connector C740 and driver's and passenger's side mirrors changes color at soldered joint S3 depending on options. Soldered joint S3 is located at bottom of "A" pillar. Control circuits between mirror control switch and passenger's side mirror all change color if vehicle is not equipped with power windows. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove mirror control switch. Test mirror control switch. See MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to appropriate step. See TEST STEP
table. If switch is defective, replace mirror control switch.TEST STEP
Malfunction Perform Step Driver's Mirror Up/Down 2 Right/Left 4 Passenger's Mirror Up/Down 3 Right/Left 5 - Install mirror control switch. Disconnect driver's side mirror 5-pin harness connector C807. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure rear window defogger is off. Place mirror control switch in driver's side adjustment position. Measure voltage between driver's side mirror harness connector C807 terminals No. 2 (Yellow wire) and No. 4 (White/Red wire) while operating mirror control switch to up and down positions. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist in both positions with opposite polarity, go to step 6 . If battery voltage exists in both positions with opposite polarity, check driver's side mirror sub-harness. If sub-harness is okay, replace driver's side mirror.
- Install mirror control switch. Disconnect passenger's side mirror harness connector C71. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure rear window defogger is off. Place mirror control switch in passenger's side adjustment position. Measure voltage between passenger's side mirror harness connector C71 terminals No. 2 (Yellow/Green wire with power windows; Yellow wire without power windows) and No. 4 (White/Black wire with power windows; White/Red wire without power windows) while operating mirror control switch to up and down positions. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist in both positions with opposite polarity, go to step 7 . If battery voltage exists in both positions with opposite polarity, check passenger's side mirror sub-harness. If sub-harness is okay, replace passenger's side mirror.
- Install mirror control switch. Disconnect driver's side mirror 5-pin harness connector C807. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure rear window defogger is off. Place mirror control switch in driver's side adjustment position. Measure voltage between driver's side mirror harness connector C807 terminals No. 2 (Yellow wire) and No. 5 (White/Blue wire) while operating mirror control switch to right and left positions. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist in both positions with opposite polarity, go to step 8 . If battery voltage exists in both positions with opposite polarity, check driver's side mirror sub-harness. If sub-harness is okay, replace driver's side mirror.
- Install mirror control switch. Disconnect passenger's side mirror 5-pin harness connector C71. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure rear window defogger is off. Place mirror control switch in passenger's side adjustment position. Measure voltage between passenger's side mirror harness connector C71 terminals No. 2 (Yellow/Green wire with power windows; Yellow wire without power windows) and No. 5 (White/Violet wire with power windows; White/Blue wire without power windows) while operating mirror control switch to right and left positions. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist in both positions with opposite polarity, go to step 9 . If battery voltage exists in both positions with opposite polarity, check passenger's side mirror sub-harness. If sub-harness is okay, replace passenger's side mirror.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect mirror control switch harness connector C740. Measure resistance in White/Red wire between mirror control switch harness connector C740 terminal No. 1 and driver's side mirror harness connector C807 terminal No. 4. Measure resistance between mirror control switch harness connector C740 terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Red wire) and driver's side mirror harness connector C807 terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire). If both resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, replace mirror control switch. If either resistance reading is greater than 5 ohms, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect mirror control switch 8-pin harness connector C740. Measure resistance between mirror control switch harness connector C740 terminal No. 2 (White/Black wire) and passenger's side mirror harness connector C71 terminal No. 4 (White/Black wire with power windows; White/Red wire without power windows). Measure resistance between mirror control switch harness connector C740 terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Red wire) and passenger's side mirror harness connector C71 terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Green wire with power windows; Yellow wire without power windows). If both resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, replace mirror control switch. If either resistance reading is greater than 5 ohms, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect mirror control switch 5-pin harness connector C740. Measure resistance in White/Blue wire between mirror control switch harness connector C740 terminal No. 7 and driver's side mirror harness connector C807 terminal No. 5.
Disconnect mirror control switch 5-pin harness connector C740. Measure resistance between mirror control switch harness connector C740 terminal No. 5 (White/Violet wire) and passenger's side mirror harness connector C71 terminal No. 5 (White/Violet wire with power windows; White/Blue wire without power windows).
