Test A: Electronic Crash Sensor Module Does Not Respond To Scan Tool

  1. Turn ignition off. Deactivate air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module connector located under front of center console. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary and retest system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Measure resistance of Orange/Blue wire between terminal No. 19 at ECS module connector and terminal No. 7 at DLC. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ECS module and retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect 6-pin in-line connector C233 (White) located behind left side of instrument panel. See Fig 2 . Measure resistance of Orange/Blue wire between terminal No. 5 at female half of in-line connector C233 and terminal No. 7 at DLC. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/Blue wire between in-line connector C233 and ECS module. Retest system for normal operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Orange/Blue wire between in-line connector C233 and DLC. Retest system for normal operation.
