Restraint Control Module: Removal

WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any air bag restraint system components. Disconnect negative battery cable and, if equipped, auxiliary power supplies. Wait one minute for backup power supply energy to deplete.
  1. Before proceeding, follow all service precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS. RCM is located behind center instrument panel. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS. Leave negative battery cable disconnected.
  2. Move front seats as far forward as possible. Remove center console tray. Remove 2 center console screws. Remove center console insert. Remove center console bracket retaining screws. At rear of center console, remove retaining screws.
  3. Lift center console and position as far to rear of vehicle as harness connectors will allow. Remove instrument panel lower finish panel. Remove RCM retaining screw under center of instrument panel. Disconnect RCM harness connector. Remove RCM bracket retaining screws. Remove RCM and bracket as an assembly.
