Generic Electronic Module
CAUTION:
Disconnect negative battery cable before disconnecting GEM. Failure to do so will result in GEM storing erroneous codes, and may also result in erratic operation of GEM after reconnecting. When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See
COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
CAUTION:
If replacing GEM, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to New Generation Star (NGS) tester. After installation, download saved module configuration information to new GEM.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove radio face plate. Insert Radio Remover (T87P-19061-A) into holes on edge of radio face plate. Push remover in 1" (25.4 mm) to release radio retaining clips. Pull radio chassis from instrument panel using remover as handles.
- Remove center instrument panel finish panel. Disconnect harness connectors. Remove Generic Electronic Module (GEM) retaining screw. Disconnect 4 harness connectors. See Fig 1 . Remove GEM. To install, reverse removal procedure.
