Sensor Failure

  1. Connect breakout box to ABCM connector C111. Disconnect suspect ABS sensor. Check harness for short-to-ground by using 88 Digital Multimeter with minimum resistance hold feature. Individually check resistance between ground and terminals No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12 and 13 of breakout box. Monitor multimeter while taking resistance readings.
  2. Drive over rough roads at various speeds. If there is continuity at any circuit pin to ground, repair short in that circuit.
  3. Connect jumper wire between both terminals of the suspect sensor connector on wire harness side. With 88 Digital Multimeter, using the HOLD feature, monitor resistance between each pair of breakout box terminals: No. 10 and 1 (LF), No. 11 and 2 (RF), No. 13 and 4 (RR), and No. 12 and 3 (LR). Monitor resistance at these terminals while driving over rough roads at various speeds. If open circuit is detected, repair suspect circuit.
  4. With 88 Digital Multimeter, monitor resistance between suspect ABS sensor terminals on component side while wiggling electrical connector. If resistance of less than 1710 ohms is noted, replace that ABS sensor.
  5. Monitor resistance between ABS sensor pin (component side) and ground while wiggling electrical connector. Use highest resistance scale of meter. If anything but open circuit is noted, replace ABS sensor.
