Driver Seat: Removal
WARNING:
Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
WARNING:
Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.
NOTE:
If a seat equipped with a seat mounted side air bag and/or a safety belt pretensioner (if equipped) system is being serviced, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be depowered.
NOTE:
The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
NOTE:
The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
All vehicles
- Depower the SRS. Refer to DISABLING SYSTEM
.
Vehicles without side air bags
- If the side air bag bridge resistor is removed, an open circuit fault will be generated by the restraints control module (RCM).
If a restraint system diagnostic tool is installed at the side air bag floor connector, a low resistance fault will be generated by the RCM.
Detach the side air bag bridge resistor.
Vehicles with side air bags
- Disconnect the driver seat side air bag electrical connector.
- Slide and disengage the driver seat side air bag electrical connector locking clip.
- Push in to release the tab and disconnect the driver seat side air bag electrical connector.
All vehicles
- Disconnect the seat electrical connector.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the nuts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the seat from the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Do not deactivate the side air bag module circuit by removing the side air bag bridge resistor the from side air bag floor electrical connector.
NOTE:
The driver seat side air bag electrical connector is shown removed from the seat for clarity.
