Transmission Range Sensor

NOTE: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Place shift lever in Neutral. Remove shift cable nut (A) and retaining clip (B). See Fig 1 . Ensure marks on shift lever at transmission and Transmission Range (TR) sensor are aligned (Neutral position). Loosen TR sensor bolts. Disconnect TR sensor harness connector.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter between TR sensor terminals "F" and "I". See Fig 2 . Rotate sensor to point where there is continuity between terminals. While holding sensor in place, tighten bolts. Disconnect ohmmeter. Install sensor connector. Install shift cable, air cleaner and battery cable. Tighten all nut and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
